Note that this event is hosted by Conversations for Caring. Any questions regarding the session should be directed to Phil McCabe.
In this presentation Phil McCabe will detail essential terminology and provide a basis for understanding the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community when navigating our current healthcare system. The course is relevant for providers who serve older populations as well as youth.
Providers need to understand the complexity of sexual identity and gender expression in working with LGBTQ individuals. Social and cultural variables, mental health, trauma and substance use, in addition to specific risk behaviors can create barriers to the effectiveness of prevention messages and treatment interventions in helping clients to enact behavior changes. In this webinar, providers will learn how to better serve their clients.
