News Providers’ Council getting off to fast start with new year

The new year is underway and the Council back at work for our members across the Commonwealth.

In Boston, legislators of the 191st Massachusetts General Court were to be officially sworn in beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, kicking off a two-year session during which the Council will pursue our Pro-Workforce Legislative Agenda, including fair pay for comparable work, the creation of a student loan repayment program, as well as exploring two new bills addressing health insurance options and an EMAC Supplement exemption for nonprofits. The full agenda, fact sheets and bill text will be available in late January.

The new year also promises to bring more professional development opportunities for staff of all levels. The training calendar is already buzzing with workshops from January through March. Tuition Remission forms should be coming in to remit costs for spring semester classes at state colleges, which start later this month. Learn more about tuition remission here.

The Council is already looking forward to our Annual Business meeting this spring; the Seventh Annual Caring Force Rally at the State House on Tuesday, May 14th (SAVE THE DATE!); and our 44th Annual Convention and Expo in the fall.

We’re ready for 2019 and we hope you’re with us. If you haven’t yet renewed, now’s the time.  If you have questions about your membership status or the renewal process, please call Nicholi McLaughlin at 617.428.3637 x126.
