The 2019 Direct Support Professional Recognition Week is Sept. 8-14. DSP Recognition Week is a national effort to recognize and celebrate direct support professionals and highlight the dedicated, innovative workforce that comprises the heart and soul of supporting persons with disabilities.
The American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) is spearheading the national effort and offers a toolkit on its website (ancor.org) to assist organizations with recognizing their direct support staff. ANCOR also works with the U.S. Senate to get a Senate Proclamation for the week. Massachusetts’ Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey have historically signed on to the resolution.
Nancy Silver Hargreaves, president and CEO of WCI — Work, Community, Independence, is working in Massachusetts with Gov. Baker’s office to secure a state proclamation of DSP Recognition Week. Gov. Baker has issued this proclamation every September he has been in office.
Members are encouraged to celebrate their DSPs and share pictures on social media using #DSPRW19. The Council will share and retweet as many of these posts that we can.
