Explore the Council’s new  Celebrating Juneteenth resources page  to find resources, events and other opportunities to recognize and celebrate the Juneteenth holiday.

Now an official holiday in the state of Massachusetts, this annual event commemorates the June 19, 1865 notification to enslaved people in Texas that slavery had ended two years earlier in the United States.

Thursday, June 17 from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm ONLINE

Free, members-only training: Juneteenth Cultural Celebration: Awareness, Appropriation & Allyship. Register for this event with the Providers’ Council here. 

Friday, June 18 at 6:30 PM, Nubian Square, Roxbury, MA

One Night in Boston: A Celebration of Juneteenth, America’s Original Independence Day & Black Music Month. Click here to learn more about this free event with King Boston. 

Here are some additional resources to help you and your agency celebrate Juneteenth:

Actionable ways your agency can celebrate the holiday:

  • Giving employees paid time off
  • Honoring Juneteenth in the workplace (e.g. guest speakers, sponsored trainings, events and activities)
  • Participate in local Juneteenth events
  • Create a flexible holiday policy
  • Provide volunteer opportunities for staff
  • Support Black and Brown businesses in your community
