Join the Providers’ Council and Unemployment Tax Management Corporation for a webinar to learn the origin, issues concerning and the current status of fraud that has flooded the Massachusetts unemployment system in 2023. These fraudulent claims have caused significant liability to human service providers, as well as causing tax and legal issues for those employees victimized.
The webinar will review steps that both employers and employees should take to protect themselves, as well as steps that the Department of Unemployment Assistance has taken to address this issue.
The second part of the webinar will be a review of the two methods of participating in the unemployment system available to nonprofits. These are the tax-rated and self-insured/reimbursable methods. With one claim now costing employers as much as $30,450, the implementation of the Covid-19 Recovery Assessment and other financial issues faced by the state, it is more imperative than ever that each member choose the method that most benefits them financially, as many tax-rated employers saw their unemployment costs increase from between 25% – 40% in 2023.
The deadline to switch methods is December 1, 2023, so join the webinar on October 12 to learn more!
In this webinar, participants will leave with an enhanced understanding of:
– Understanding steps employers and employees must take regarding fraudulent claims;
– Understand the requirements an agency must take to receive credits for fraudulent charges; and
– Understand the two methods and how to confirm that your agency is operating under that for which it is best suited.
