Burnout is a major concern within human services that effects each of us on some level. Conversely, job satisfaction can help to mitigate burnout and to increase motivation within the workplace. While working in human services is not a solitary activity and teamwork is paramount, the needs of each individual employee must be considered. The desire to create change propels many to the field of human services, and each individual brings a unique set of strengths, skills and potential.
By framing the definition of leadership as the actionable use of one’s abilities allows us to tap into the leader in each of us. Empowering ourselves and those with whom we work to personally embody leadership and effect proactive change can increase one’s sense of purpose, achievement, and job satisfaction.
Intended audience: All levels of staff from administration to middle management and DSP’s
After this session, participants will be able to:
– Identify the connection between burnout and job satisfaction in human services;
– Define leadership in terms of an individual’s strengths and actions; and
– Identify at least 3 personal strengths and 1 actionable step to create change in your workplace.
