This workshop is designed to help clinical social workers develop the skills needed to provide effective, affirming therapy to transgender and gender diverse (TGD) clients. We will explore the mental health needs of transgender individuals and communities, drawing from TGD lived experiences. Participants will learn practical, strengths-based strategies to create a supportive therapeutic alliance that affirms gender identity and promotes resilience. By the end of the workshop, clinicians will be better equipped to deliver personalized, inclusive care rooted in empathy, cultural humility, and client empowerment.
This workshop is specifically designed to empower clinical social workers and other clinicians with the knowledge and skills to begin providing care to trans and gender diverse clients.
This webinar is eligible for 1.5 CEUs in the following categories: Anti-discrimination, Cross-cultural practice.
Learning objectives:
– Deepen conceptual flexibility about gender to better hold space and empower TGD clients’ self-determination.
– Build cultural humility and empathy for the lived experiences of TGD people in a culture that too often others and dehumanizes gender diversity.
– Try out best practices to address distinct needs of TGD individuals, closing the confidence gap for emerging trans-affirming practitioners.
