This professional development workshop introduces participants to the MIGDAS-2 diagnostic interview system, a well-established assessment tool for diagnosing autism that is growing in popularity as an alternative or supplement to the ADOS-2. The MIGDAS-2 emphasizes non-pathologizing language as a framework for clinicians to think, talk, and write about the autism spectrum brain style’s profile of strengths and differences. The training teaches sensory-based interview methods to engage individuals across the lifespan and provides guidance for complex cases, including recognizing the autism spectrum brain style in girls and twice exceptional children, as well as the presentation of the autistic brain style in co-occurrence with other forms of neurodiversity such as attention, learning, and socio-emotional differences.
This session offers 4.5 Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, and educators.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
– Use the neuro-informed Visual Framework, descriptive language and MIGDAS-2 strength-based system to organize and develop an individualized behavioral profile for individuals across age and ability levels.
– Apply key clinical skills to engage autistic individuals in interactive diagnostic interviews that highlight each individual’s brain style pattern of strengths and differences.
– Apply the Visual Framework Descriptive Triangle when discussing the diagnosis with parents, caregivers, teachers, and autistic clients using accessible, positive, descriptive language.
