On August 5, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will consider the Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act (S.3211).
The bill would establish a standard occupational classification (SOC) for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), recognizing the essential role they play in supporting our most vulnerable. A dedicated occupational classification would allow federal and state governments to collect accurate data on the DSP workforce, including vacancies, turnover, wages and workforce demographics, helping inform policies that strengthen recruitment, retention, reimbursement, and compensation.
