News Public Service Loan Forgiveness Resolution

The Council’s national partner, the National Council of Nonprofits, has endorsed a Congressional Review Act resolution (S.J.Res. 182) led by Senator Kaine (D-VA) to overturn the U.S. Department of Education’s final rule on Public Service Loan Forgiveness, which authorizes the Secretary to unlawfully exclude certain nonprofits based on their mission. The Congressional Review Act allows Congress to overturn new federal agency regulations through a joint resolution of disapproval. NCN views this as an opportunity to educate members of Congress on how the changes would undermine the ability of nonprofits to recruit and retain the staff needed to serve their communities. A vote could be held as soon as next week.
