News Haitian and Syrian TPS Termination

At the end of June, the Supreme Court ruled to allow the Trump administration to end temporary protected status (TPS) for Haitians and Syrians.

On July 1, MA Attorney General Andrea Campbell issued a statement regarding how employers should move forward if they have employees under the recently terminated status. According to the Attorney General, the E-Verify system and SAVE database lists July 10 as a placeholder date for employment authorization termination, however, that has not been updated since before the ruling, so employers should monitor those systems for an implementation timeline.

The Massachusetts Office for Refugees and Immigrants (ORI), in partnership with the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD), hosted several Know Your Rights sessions for employers regarding the ruling. Resources from that meeting are available here

The Council is currently communicating with the Healey/Driscoll administration regarding the impact this change will have on the human services sector. If possible, members are encouraged to send a brief email regarding the impact of the TPS ruling and any specific data that can be shared with the administration. Those emails should be directed to Bill Yelenak
