News Council President & CEO featured in CommonWealth Magazine story on workforce crisis for mental health agencies

Providers’ Council President and CEO Michael Weekes was featured in a CommonWealth Magazine story today about staffing woes plaguing mental health agencies and other human services organizations in Massachusetts.

Weekes said that the crisis is acute in human services because of the high stakes for people’s lives.

“It’s different for you and I to have to wait longer to be served in a restaurant…than not having a person able to provide services to someone in need in one of our residential programs, where the risk to their safety is in question if there’s no staff there,” he said.

The story also featured Council member The Home for Little Wanderers, with President and CEO Lesli Suggs telling the magazine that the agency has a waiting list for every service they provide.

“I can’t serve kids because I don’t have enough staff to serve them safely,” Suggs said.
