News Council announces training on the Massachusetts criminal records system

The Providers’ Council recently announced that it will host a training on May 18 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on “Massachusetts Criminal Records, Sealing and Expungement.”

Presented by Crispin Birnbaum of Lawyers Clearinghouse, this free, 90-minute training will offer an overview of the criminal records system in Massachusetts, including who has access to it and what rights clients have under the CORI laws. The second half of the training will provide an overview of sealing and expungement of Massachusetts criminal records, with referral information for free legal resources for clients seeking to work on their records.

The goal of this training is to enable direct care staff who work with people with criminal records to become more knowledgeable and confident when speaking with clients about living with criminal records in the community, to understand what legal options the clients have and to know where to refer clients for free legal help with their records.
