News Council announces LaJuan Allen as new director of public policy and communications

The Providers’ Council is excited to announce that LaJuan Allen has joined the organization as its new director of public policy and communications!

Prior to joining the Council, Allen served as the director of policy and political relations for STOP THE WAIT RI, a Providence-based nonprofit whose mission is to amplify parent voices, build community power and successfully advocate for the conditions that will create the best educational landscape for children. In his role, Allen was charged with developing voter registration, education and turnout strategies, tracking local races, coordinating electoral programs, developing and managing candidate pipelines and supporting fundraising activities.

Allen began his career working for Providence Mayor Jorge O. Elorza, rising from the position of community relations coordinator to director of policy and partnerships. His portfolio includes leading, implementing and coordinating policy initiatives and high-quality, quick-turnaround research and analysis in support of the mayor’s policy agenda.

In 2018, Allen became the first person in his family to graduate from college, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science/public policy and sociology from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. In May of 2022, Allen graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth with a Master’s in public policy with a concentration in education policy. He currently serves as secretary of the Providence Promise board of directors and is a member of the Black Lives Matter RI and the RI Black Heritage Society boards of directors.
