News Council adds Vance, Suggs to Board of Directors

Providers’ Council members this morning elected its 2019-2020 Board of Directors and a slate of officers during its 44th Annual Business and Membership Meeting in Worcester.

Michael Vance, Chief Executive Officer of Central Boston Elder Services, and Lesli Suggs, President and CEO of The Home for Little Wanderers, were added to the Council Board.

Vance was previously a board member when he was vice president of field operations at Action for Boston Community Development. He was appointed CEO at CBES in November 2018. Vance grew up in Mattapan and joined ABCD as an assistant director at the Mattapan Family Service Center in 1993, working his way up through the organization.

Suggs, LICSW, was named president and CEO of The Home in January of 2018. She joined The Home in 2011 as senior director of community-based and behavioral health programs and was promoted to vice president of program operations. She has extensive experience in child welfare and behavioral health, and is a driving force behind the Massachusetts Permanency Practice Alliance, founded by The Home in partnership with Justice Resource Institute, Youth Villages, Cambridge Family and Children’s Services and Plummer Youth Promise.

Members also confirmed Bill Sprague as the Board Chair, Nancy Munson as Chair-elect, Sandra McCroom as Vice Chair, Michael Vance as Treasurer, Sue Stubbs as Assistant Treasurer, Diane Gould as Clerk, Mia Alvarado as Assistant Clerk, Jackie K. Moore as Immediate Past Chair and Gerry Wright as Chair Emeritus.

The Providers’ Council was established in 1975 as a means of envisioning change, leading advocacy and driving progress for the nonprofit community-based human services sector. Its diverse 34-member Board of Directors is representative of member organizations who provide supports to one-in-ten state residents.
