Tobacco/nicotine use in the U.S. is at an all-time low, but still extraordinarily high among individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Let’s talk about why! This session will address the role of smoking and vaping in treatment and how nicotine impacts recovery. Join us to learn about the latest products, keep the conversation going, and explore ways to integrate this into treatment in a way that meets people where they are.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
– Identify 4 research-based reasons for addressing and treating tobacco/nicotine dependence in behavioral health treatment program.
– Describe a motivational interviewing approach and identify pharmacological, cognitive, and behavioral strategies for the treatment of tobacco/nicotine dependence.
– Review concrete steps programs/clinicians can take to increase integration of tobacco/nicotine education and treatment.
