Gov. Charlie Baker announced last week that certain eligible Massachusetts residents could receive Pfizer COVID-19 booster shots, if at least six months has passed since they received their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
The eligible groups are individuals 65 years of age and older, individuals 18 to 64 years old who are at risk of developing severe COVID-19 due to underlying medical conditions and individuals 18 to 64 years old who are at increased risk for contracting the virus because of occupational or institutional settings.
The policy is in accordance with updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to the Baker Administration, approximately 600,000 residents are initially eligible for the booster shots under the new federal eligibility criteria and the state expects to have capacity to administer over 300,000 per week by mid-October.
Massachusetts residents will be able to receive Pfizer COVID-19 booster doses from more than 460 locations, including over 450 retail pharmacies, with some appointments available now for booking. Additional appointments are expected to come online in the coming days.
Eligible individuals can use the Vaxfinder tool to search a full list of hundreds of locations to receive a Pfizer COVID-19 booster shot. Many locations will be booking appointments out weeks in advance.
Those who are unable to use Vaxfinder, or have difficulty accessing the internet, can dial 2-1-1 to call the COVID-19 Vaccine Resource Line, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
