Council announces keynote for 43rd Annual Convention: RISE!
The Providers’ Council is pleased to announce that Lt. Colonel Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch (retired) will deliver the keynote address at its 43rd Annual Convention & Expo: RISE! on Thursday, Sept. 20 in Boston.
“Just for me to be with you will be a humbling experience,” she said during a recent telephone interview from her home in Las Vegas.
A daughter of immigrant parents who grew up in the border town of Laredo, Texas amidst the challenges of poverty, discrimination and illiteracy, Kickbusch rose to become the highest-ranking woman in the Combat Support Field of the U.S. Army. Then, when the opportunity arose to accept a command post, she instead retired to fulfill her mother’s dying wish that she become a community leader.
Today, Kickbusch is dedicated to empowering and inspiring Hispanic leaders and has worked with more than one million children and their families across the United States through Educational Achievement Services, Inc. (EAS), the company she founded in 1994.
She is also a charismatic and passionate speaker who views coming to Boston as a sort of homecoming, as it was an educator from South Boston who came to her Laredo community and helped transform her from an angry youth to a “whole person,” as advocate, servant and leader by showing her the opportunity that education can present.
“We have a responsibility when we become informed and empower ourselves to represent those who are not at the table,” Kickbusch said. “And I feel that is what the Providers’ Council also does.”
Kickbusch’s keynote address will highlight the morning program of the 43rd Annual Convention & Expo: RISE! The day-long event regularly draws more than 1,100 people from across the human services sector to the Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston. This year’s convention includes 36 workshops and nearly 80 exhibitors.
