The Caring Force Blog July 2018 Member Spotlight

The Caring Force is pleased to announce the July Member Spotlight honoree is Shannon Rodgers, a Lead Service Coordinator at Roxbury Youthworks.

Whether as a direct care worker or as a manager, Shannon has always been known to go above and beyond to make sure her clients and their families receive the best services.

Here’s what Shannon had to say about working in human services:

Organization: Roxbury Youthworks

Years in human services: 18

Best professional memory: There isn’t one particular moment that stands out for me but I do enjoy attending the graduations of my clients. Many of them don’t think they will ever get to walk across that stage and receive their diploma. As they walk across the stage with a sense of accomplishment, you can see just how far they have come and feel the excitement of what’s to come for them. I try to attend each graduation whether it’s an 8th grade or high school graduation, just to be there for them to celebrate their success.

If there was one thing you can change about your job what would it be? (Question from Jennifer Polischuk at TILL): I do wish there was more interaction with the families. Because I was a direct care worker before my current role, it is in my nature to be directly involved with the clients and their families. I would love to spend more time getting to know every family and connecting them to the resources they need. There is always more that can be done and I wish I had the time to individually help every family.

Question for the next member spotlight honoree: What role do you see yourself filling on your team?

P.S. If you know someone who inspires clients and embodies the spirit of The Caring Force, please nominate them on our website or email Christine Batista at christine@providers.org for more information about our Spotlight program.
