The Caring Force Blog August 2024 Workforce Hero: Javielly and Persida Rivera

| Caroline O'Neill

The Caring Force is delighted to announce that our August TCF Workforce Hero Spotlight honors a remarkable mother/daughter duo from ServiceNet: Javielly and Persida Rivera! Javielly serves as a senior counselor, while Persida is a counselor and former program manager. Both are dedicated members of ServiceNet’s Developmental and Brain Injury Services Division.

1. Tell us about your background.  How did you decide to pursue a career in human services?

Persida: My youngest daughter, who has special needs, has inspired my love for human services. Over the years, Javielly has supported me, and together we’ve helped each other grow in this field. Now, we both share a passion for caring for others.

2. What does a typical day look like for you at your organization?

We provide physical, mental, and emotional support to both clients and their families. While the job can be demanding, it is also incredibly rewarding.

3. What is your favorite professional memory?

Javielly’s favorite memory was successfully helping her client achieve some of their Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals. It’s always a heartwarming experience.

Persida’s favorite memory is being attentive to her clients’ needs and organizing house meetings to improve things.

4. This question is from our May Workforce Hero Spotlight, Judy Hanley: How do you maintain boundaries when working with families?

Avoiding intimate relationships, refraining from inappropriate gestures, and not using clients to fulfill personal emotional or relational needs are essential practices. Establishing boundaries is crucial for maintaining respect and setting standards in human services.

5. Do you have a question for the next person we spotlight?

What are your daily challenges in human services?

Thank you so much to Javielly and Persida and all of our wonderful human services workers who bring joy and passion to work every day! We are so thankful for your efforts and for making the Commonwealth a better place.
