The Providers’ Council is turning 50 in 2025! In celebration of this milestone, the Council will be running a series of Throwback Thursday posts throughout the year commemorating some of the Council’s most important milestones in its first 50 years. This week, the Council wants to highlight a gubernatorial forum, hosted by the Council, which was attended by Govs. Patrick and Baker in 2010.
On September 28, 2010, the four candidates for governor, Democrat Deval Patrick, Republican Charles Baker, Independent Tim Cahill and Green Rainbow candidate Jill Stein, met at a Faneuil Hall as part of the Council’s first gubernatorial forum. Hosted by Karen Holmes Ward from WCVB-TV, the forum was the first of its kind to soley focus on the human services sector.
“This was an incredible opportunity for the candidates to enter a deep dialogue about human services with our community,” said Randal Rucker, the then chairman of the Council’s Board of Directors, in the October 2010 issue of The Provider newspaper.
This event allowed human services workers to share their stories with candidates and for the sector to feel heard by those who would represent them as governor. Policy initiatives such as this are part of how the Council uplifts the sector.
