Following weeks of delays, the Legislature delivered a $3.1 billion spending bill to Gov. Maura Healey yesterday that included $250 million for the state’s emergency shelter system crisis.

The funds are expected to cover shelter costs through the winter and into the spring.
The governor initially requested the additional funds in September, and in November announced that the state’s emergency shelter system had reached capacity and would need to start putting families on waitlists for shelter.
