News House Passes Continuing Resolution

House Republicans passed a continuing resolution on Tuesday (217-213) with one defection (Rep. Massie (R-KY) and one Democrat (Rep. Golden (D-ME). The stopgap measure funds the federal government until the end of the fiscal year, Sept. 30.

The measure cuts non-defense funding by $13 billion and increases defense funding by $6 billion, which will be used for immigration, veterans, military, firefighters, and nutrition assistance. The Senate will now take up the bill where eight Democrats will need to side with all Republicans to hit the needed 60-vote threshold. President Trump is in favor of the bill and must sign by midnight Friday to avoid a government shutdown.
