Gov. Charlie Baker has proclaimed Sept. 8 through Sept. 14, 2019 Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week in Massachusetts.
DSP Recognition Week is an annual event organized and promoted nationally by ANCOR. The U.S. Senate has also issued a proclamation stating that this week honors direct support professionals, personal attendants, direct care workers, paraprofessionals and more. That resolution was supported by Massachusetts Senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey.
The proclamation issued by Gov. Baker states that “Direct support professionals enable individuals with disabilities to live meaningful, productive lives and avoid more costly institutional care; … The Commonwealth recognizes the important role direct support professionals play in improving the quality of life and care of people across Massachusetts.”
Many members are using social media to recognize and thank their DSPs this week and using #DSPRW19. The Council will be sharing as many photos and posts as we see.
