News Council’s livable wage bill reported to the Senate Ways and Means Committee

The Providers’ Council’s bill, An act relative to a livable wage for human services workers (S.130|H.223), has been reported favorably to the Senate Ways and Means Committee.

On September 22, the Council along with several of its members testified before the Joint Committees on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities on the bill, highlighting the current pay disparity between state and community-based human service employee. The House has 60 days from the hearing to report on the bill. A decision is expected by November 21.

An act relative to a livable wage for human services workers would eliminate the pay disparity that exists between the salaries of human services workers employed by community-based human service providers and state employees holding similar job titles who perform similar work. For more information on the impacts of the bill, please click here.

The Council’s other bill, An act relative to a student loan repayment program for human services workers, has been report to both the House and Senate Ways and Means Committees.
