The Caring Force is honored to announce Moses Osei as our TCF October 2025 Workforce Hero Spotlight honoree. Osei is the Lead Overnight Residential Assistant with the Guild for Human Services. He has worked at their Framingham house since it opened in 2014.
1. Tell us about your background. How did you decide to pursue a career in human services?
My education, teaching and volunteer experiences made me interested in understanding the social, emotional and economic factors that affect an individual’s well-being. I realized that I wanted to be part of a community that focuses on helping people improve their lives.
I’ve always been passionate about helping others and making a positive difference in people’s lives. Growing up, I saw how support and compassion could truly change someone’s circumstances through teaching and counseling. It inspired me to pursue a career in human services to help individuals and families overcome challenges through practical skills.
2. What does a typical day look like for you at your organization?
As an overnight staff member, my main role is to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals during the night hours. My shift starts with a handoff from the evening staff where updates are reviewed about everyone and any important events from the day. Throughout the night, regular safety checks are done, environments are monitored and respond to individuals’ needs that may arise.
When individuals are asleep, I use the time to do light housekeeping, prepare breakfast and organize supplies for the next day. Towards the end of my shift, I update logs and communicate with morning staff to ensure a smooth transition.
3. What is your favorite professional memory?
My favorite professional memory is when I assisted an individual who was struggling to adjust to the program during the night shift. New individuals often have trouble sleeping in a new environment. Listening to them and reassuring them helped build trust over time. They eventually began to feel more comfortable and safer during the night.
4. This question is from our September Workforce Hero, Mark Raines: What are your top three holidays, and if you had the opportunity to celebrate each one in a different country (excluding the one you currently reside in), which countries would you choose and why? Please share your reasoning based on cultural significance, local traditions, or personal interest.
Christmas — Ghana
I’d love to celebrate Christmas in Ghana because of its vibrant celebration combining religious observance with feasting at family gatherings and street parties like “Detty December,” community sharing, parade and carnivals.
New Year — Mauritius
New Years in Mauritius is celebrated with a lively mix of fireworks, beach parties and a family feast and music. Mauritius also celebrates Chinese New Year, which includes family reunions, a symbolic feast, exchanging red envelopes and watching lion and dragon dances.
Easter — Greece
Greece has one of the most vibrant Easter celebrations in the world, full of deep tradition and community spirit. The candlelit, midnight services, music and feasting after the fast create such a meaningful and joyful atmosphere.
5. Do you have a question for the next person we spotlight?
As a human service professional, how will you celebrate yourself for being a servant leader and why do you choose to celebrate it that way?
Thank you so much to Moses and all of our wonderful human service workers across the Commonwealth who bring joy, positivity and passion to work every day! We are so thankful for you and your efforts to make Massachusetts a better place.
