After receiving a record breaking 45 submissions in this year’s Broadcast Your Love of Human Services photo contest, we’re pleased to announce Bristol Elder Services as our winner!
You voted online to help us select our finalists, and we shared your top three photos at our 42nd Annual Convention & Expo: Were All In in front of 1,200 convention attendees on Monday, September 25. Bristol Elder Services came away the winner, and Doc Wayne Youth Services and Bridgewell came in second and third place, respectively.
To recognize Bristol Elder Services’ submission and the person who envisioned and created the photo, we’ve selected Jean Oliveira – executive assistant at Bristol Elder Services – as our September Spotlight!
Here is what Jean had to say about working in human services and her winning photo:

Job Title: Executive Assistant
Best Professional Memory: As Executive Assistant to the CEO, I see the agency from many perspectives. While I don’t have a “best memory,” I feel privileged to observe all the good work that goes on at Bristol. We have a caring and compassionate staff who are dedicated to finding ways for our consumers to live independently in the community. Our Board of Directors is made up of committed volunteers who take the time to attend our monthly meetings and offer their expertise, guidance and encouragement. Being part of this agency helps me to believe that the world isn’t as harsh as it sometimes seems.
What was your vision for the Broadcast Your Love photo and what was your favorite part about creating it: I knew I wanted to do something with a heart. Since our office is in a renovated textile mill with a beautiful two-story marble foyer, the location was the easy part. We have a great group of employees at Bristol, many of whom are members of The Caring Force and always willing to take the time to enthusiastically participate. Our RN Clinical Director, Sandra Frechette, did a great job of guiding us into position and taking a perfect picture.
How have family/peers embraced your work in human services: My parents brought us up to always be aware of those less fortunate, and that is the way my siblings and I brought up our own children. My sister is a registered nurse who does home care for disabled children, her daughter is a program director at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, and my son designs computer programs for nonprofit organizations in New York. So, I guess you could say that human services work “runs” in my family.
Question for the next spotlight honoree: When did you know that you wanted to join the human services sector and what keeps you energized every day?
