An effective workforce and service delivery are impossible without a working knowledge of your own and another person or group’s culture and background. An increased understanding of the cultural differences and individual characteristics represented within your team and among the people you support is extremely beneficial to daily operations. Using the following definition of culture, this training will explore ways to expand cultural knowledge and develop skills and confidence to support cultural competence in words, interactions and actions:
Culture is the learned and shared knowledge, beliefs and rules that people use to interpret experience and to generate social behavior; it is the guiding force behind what people think, say, expect and do.
This training takes place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23rd at Ascentria Care Alliance in Worcester.
Through interactive activities combined with a conceptual framework, participants will:
- Increase understanding of the impact of diverse cultures, values and beliefs on staff recruitment and retention, workplace behaviors, communication, teamwork, service delivery and organizational success;
- Engage in discussion about and increase comfort level with cultural diversity;
- Assess and improve individual skills to eliminate barriers to full participation in the social, cultural and professional life of their organization; and
- Develop a Personal Action Plan for immediate implementation within their organization
