Please help us help our workforce!
As many of you know, the Providers’ Council released its Pro-Workforce Legislative Agenda for the 2017-2018 session last week. The agenda consists of bills that aim to strengthen the human service workforce. Specifically these bills would:
- allow providers and employees to access the state’s Group Insurance Commission (GIC) to help reduce health insurance costs;
- create an education loan repayment program for direct care workers; and
- set a schedule to fully eliminate the pay disparity between state workers and those employed by private, community-based human services nonprofits who do similar work.
Last week we asked for you to help us with the first step to ensuring these bills are successful – getting state legislators to co-sponsor each of our bills. But if you didn’t send an e-mail last week, it’s critical that you do so now.
The deadline for our state representatives and state senators to add their name to legislation is this Friday, February 3rd. If you haven’t e-mailed your state legislators yet, please do so before this Friday – our pre-written letter makes it very easy!
You can also include your personal story to make your message more effective: Let your legislator know what it would mean to you and your family if these bills became law.
All it takes is five minutes today to help strengthen the human services sector and build caring communities throughout Massachusetts. And all you need to do is enter your address, and we will do the rest!
We appreciate your support and your advocacy on these important issues.
