DESCRIPTION:Date and Time: June 16; 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. \nLocation: Online via Zoom \nIntended Audience: All levels of staff including Supervisors and Managers\, Human Resources\, Leadership\, and Direct Care \nLearning Track: Equity\, Justice & Culturally Responsive Practice \nIn the U.S.\, it has become particularly challenging to engage in respectful conversations about topics such as race and racism. We will provide strategies for having meaningful conversations about these topics. In this session\, we will dig deeply into the concepts of race and racism and will address microaggressions and the importance of representation as well as how intersectionality impacts our experiences. Participants will engage in activities to reflect on their own identities and how that relates to their experiences with race and racism. Yet many leaders are quietly asking the same question: “Why aren’t we seeing the performance gains that come with diverse teams?” \nThe truth is simple but uncomfortable: Diversity alone does not drive results\, the art of effective management of the team does. This highly engaging workshop equips leaders with the practical skills\, tools\, and behaviors required to turn diversity into measurable performance\, innovation\, trust\, and engagement. He was the Assistant Dean for Community Engagement and Social Justice at the College of Social Sciences\, Policy and Practice at Simmons University. Professor Bailey has devoted his career to sharing his deep knowledge\, expertise\, and leadership in the fields of Social Work\, Public Health\, Youth Education\, and Affordable Housing. \nHe is a past president of the International Federation of Social Workers based in Bern\, Switzerland—the first person of color to hold this post. He is a past president of NASW National-Washington D.C. and the Massachusetts Chapter of NASW. He was the Chairperson of the National Social Work Public Education Campaign.
