The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) will be issuing new chip/tap to pay EBT cards to clients to combat benefit skimming issues.
Currently, DTA is in the process of running a piolet program in Worcester before implementing the change statewide. All active clients and closed clients with a balance of $20 of more with completed transactions in the last three months will receive new cards via the mail at no cost.
Due to the nature of the mass replacement, there is not specific timeline available for when clients will receive their new cards, however, close to the card delivery dates, DTA will send a text and notice to clients letting them know about the new card. Old cards will continue to be active until clients activate the new card. Clients will have 60 days to active their new cards.
Clients will be able to receive cards via mail, in-person at a Transitional Assistance Office (TAO) beginning July 28 or they can request a new card via DTA Connect or by phone.
