What last year's winners said:

  • "The collaboration with the student team gave us tremendous momentum and confidence, raised the profile of the project within JRI and provided us with a blue print for implementation.  The team's business plan provided us with key development information, including financial data, sales benchmarks, goals for product development, market research, and an operational marketing strategy." - Deirdre Hunter, Justice Resource Institute
  • "Student work provided some good market data that changed our thinking about the optimal customer in terms of size and IT needs." - Mike Moloney, HMEA
  • "I have a much better understanding of the breadth and depth of running a social enterprise.  [The prize consulting services have] given me a clearer picture regarding the roles and responsibilities that nonprofits can take on to develop, support, and sustain its mission-serving programs for clients." - Marlene Warner, Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling

About social enterprise: Social enterprises are nonprofits using earned revenue strategies to directly address social needs through goods and services or by employing people who are disadvantaged. Social enterprises achieve their primary social missions using business methods, harnessing the power of the marketplace to fund solutions or directly solve critical social and environmental problems.  Social enterprises pursue a double bottom line - both financial and social returns, and reinvest those returns in their nonprofit social missions.

Eligibility requirements: In order to be eligible to win, ideas must be connected to a Providers' Council member agency and be aligned with its mission as a human service provider. Learn more about additional eligibility requirements.
