Upcoming 2017 voter registration deadlines
For most of the year, elections and politicians have dominated local and national headlines. Regardless of your party affiliation or political ideology, if you want to vote in local elections this fall, you must make sure you’re registered to vote!
Here are a few upcoming important dates to mark in your calendar:
- September 20, 2017: Voter registration deadline for the State Primary Election
- October 10, 2017: State Primary Election
- October 18, 2017: Voter registration deadline for the State General Election
- November 7, 2017: State General Election
If you will be a first-time voter in Massachusetts this fall, you can register to vote by filling out an online form. You can also register by mail or in person at your local election office. The voter registration form can be accessed here and printed. If you are going to mail the form, it must be postmarked by the voter registration deadline noted above.
REMEMBER: If you have moved since the last election, you need to re-register to vote with your new address. Choose one of the three registration options above before Sept. 20 so you’ll be eligible to vote in the upcoming primary in October.

The Council strongly encourages our members and all nonprofits to actively promote voter registration at your organizations to get staff, clients and other stakeholders engaged. For a refresher on voting laws and what nonprofits can and can’t do, click here.
