Senate overrides Governor’s veto, ensures annualized Salary Reserve!
The Senate voted unanimously Thursday to override Governor Deval Patrick's veto of the Salary Reserve. As the House voted to override the Governor's veto on Tuesday, this completes the override process and secures a $20 million annualized salary increase for our sector's dedicated direct care workers.
This is a victory for all members of the Providers' Council and The Caring Force who sent a letter, made a phone call, attended our rally on Beacon Hill, met with legislators or talked about the Salary Reserve to their colleagues should be incredibly proud of the difference we have made.
The Council thanks Senate President Therese Murray for bringing the override vote to the chamber and for her incredible leadership efforts on the Salary Reserve this year. We also must thank a true human services champion, Sen. Karen Spilka, who filed an amendment to the Senate budget in May that eventually became our $20 million Salary Reserve.
Thank you to the Legislature, which worked quickly to secure an override of the Governor's veto! We will be in touch in the future as the Salary Reserve is implemented.
