Ready to rally with The Caring Force? Registration now open
Registration is now open for The Caring Force’s 7th Annual State House Rally and Lobby Day taking place Tuesday, April 10th in the Great Hall.
This year’s rally, happening the day before the House Ways & Means Committee budget proposal is released, will support the Providers’ Council’s Pro-Workforce Legislative Agenda that seeks to strengthen the state’s human services sector and employees through the creation of a student loan repayment program and pay equity between state employees and those doing comparable work at private, community-based providers.
The morning program features stories of inspiration from human services workers, clients and other stakeholders, and will include the annual presentation of the Caring Bear Award to legislative champions.
Every April for the past six years, hundreds of the 25,000-plus Caring Force members have filled the State House to rally together, then advocate with individual lawmakers for fair funding for human service programs, adequate salaries for low-paid direct care workers and more.
The Council’s bills – House 116/Senate 42 to establish a student loan repayment program for qualified direct care workers, and House 3150/Senate 47 to eliminate the pay disparity between state workers and those doing comparable work at private, community-based providers – recently gained a favorable report from the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities and are awaiting their next committee assignment.
The Caring Force has learned through past rallies that to make a difference, we have to be heard. This year’s rally, taking place the day before the House Ways & Means budget is announced, comes at a key time in the legislative process and represents a significant opportunity to demonstrate support for legislation and program funding. It gives participants the opportunity to strengthen relationships with the legislators, share personal stories and educate others on how vitally important the human service sector is in building caring communities across the Commonwealth.
