Providers’ Council statement on immigration order
Monday afternoon, Providers' Council President and CEO Michael Weekes issued a statement in response to President Donald Trump's Executive Order on immigration.
"The Providers' Council, along with many of our members in the human services community, are extremely disappointed and disheartened about President Trump's executive order banning immigration to the United States from several countries. Our sector has more than 164,000 jobs in Massachusetts, and it employs a large number of immigrants - including some from the now-banned countries and some who are Muslims. These workers provide high quality, compassionate care to our friends, family and neighbors. As President John F. Kennedy wrote, our country is a "Nation of Immigrants' - we hope President Trump will be guided by those words and rescind this deleterious and misguided executive order. We cannot tolerate actions distorting our nation's values with bigotry, nativism and religious intolerance."
