Salary Reserve not included in Senate budget proposal
As you have probably already heard, the Senate Ways & Means Committee introduced its FY '13 budget proposal on Wednesday, May 16, and it did not include a Salary Reserve for human services direct care workers.
But the effort to secure a Salary Reserve isn't over.
There's still time to ask the Senate to include the Salary Reserve in its final budget document. Our longtime champion, Senator Karen Spilka, has agreed to file an amendment for a $28 million Salary Reserve in the Senate budget. Her amendment will be filed by 3 p.m. on Friday, May 18.
We need to redouble our efforts to secure the support of as many co-sponsors as possible before the Friday, 3 p.m. deadline. Please help us Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning by:
- Using our online form to send a pre-written message to your senator, asking him or her to sign onto Senator Karen Spilka's Salary Reserve amendment.
- Calling your senator and asking him or her to sign onto Senator Karen Spilka's Salary Reserve amendment. (Look up his or her contact information here).
More than half the Senate already signed onto Sen. Spilka's letter to leadership, asking them to support a Salary Reserve in the Senate budget. If your senator signed this list, please remind him or her of their earlier commitment and ask your senator to continue standing with direct care workers.
Thank you for your advocacy and for helping to secure support for the Salary Reserve in the Senate. If you need any additional information, please contact Bill Yelenak.
