House, Senate schedule budget hearings across state

The state’s Joint Committee on Ways & Means has released its schedule of Fiscal Year 2018 budget hearings that will take place around the state. The Joint Committee holds the hearings as a part of its budget process. The House is expected to release its FY ’18 budget plan on Wednesday, April 26. Governor Charlie Baker released his House 1 budget in January. (You can review the Providers’ Council’s breakdown here.)

The Council encourages members to attend the sessions being held in their region and to bring staff, clients/consumers and others when possible. Members are also encouraged to deliver testimony.

All hearings begin at 10 a.m. Sessions of note to human service providers include:

Wednesday, March 15 – Everett High School Library, 100 Elm St., Everett: Economic Development and Housing, Labor and Workforce Development

Tuesday, March 21 – Reggie Lewis Center, Roxbury Community College, Boston: Health and Human Services I, including:

  • EOHHS services
  • Office of Medicaid
  • Department of Public Health
  • Department of Mental Health
  • Department of Developmental Services
  • Center for Health and Information Analysis (CHIA)
  • Elder Affairs
  • Veterans Affairs

Monday, March 27 – Kuss Middle School, Fall River: Health and Human Services II, including

  • Department of Children and Families
  • Department of Youth Services
  • Department of Transitional Assistance
  • Mass. Rehab Commission
  • Mass. Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Mass. Commission for the Blind
  • Office of Refugees and Immigrants

Wednesday, March 29 – UMass Amherst:  Education and Local Aid, including Department of Early Education and Care

Friday, March 31 – State House, Gardner Auditorium, Boston: Public hearing
