Council unveils Beyond Social Value report at seminar
The Providers' Council and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Institute unveiled the Beyond Social Value: Massachusetts Human Services Economic Impact report during a seminar Wednesday afternoon.
The presentation of data from Michael Goodman and Christina Citino from the University of Massachusetts was a preview of a full report that is to come later this year from the university.
Some of the key findings included:
- The human services industry accounts for 5 percent of the Commonwealth's nearly 3 million jobs.
- The industry experienced significant growth since 2003 of 47.9 percent.
- Nearly 81 percent of workers are women.
- About 6.5 percent of workers in the sector have disabilities, compared to 4.4 percent in all other industries.
Seven Hills Foundation President and CEO David Jordan and Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation President Michael Widmer then responded to the data. The four then sat on a panel together and took questions from the audience about the future of the human services sector and the story told by the data.
The full report is expected to be released later this Spring.
