Council sends letter to IRS, Treasury on proposed regs

The Providers' Council on Monday, February 24, sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service and Department of the Treasury on proposed guidelines that would limit the ability of nonprofit organizations to engage in nonpartisan civic engagement work, such as voter registration, voter education, candidate forums, get-out-the-vote efforts and voters guides.

The Council's full letter can be downloaded here. It is also part of the public record at the government's website, regulations.gov. The page dealing with the proposed rulemaking is located here. Since going live, nearly 99,000 comments have been submitted on the proposed guidelines, and it is widely assumed that the IRS and Department of the Treasury will have to go back to the drawing board to fix the regulations or propose new ones.
