Council keynote Kayla Harrison wins gold in Rio
The Council sends its sincerest congratulations to Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison, who won the 78kg weight class at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio on Thursday, August 11. In doing so, Harrison -- who in 2012 became the first American ever to win Olympic gold in judo -- successfully defended her standing as the best women's judoka in the world. She won each of her matches by submission or pin in an amazing display of dominance.
At the Council's 41st Annual Convention & Expo: Inspire | Ignite | Impact on Oct. 24, Harrison will share her story and success with attendees as our esteemed keynote speaker. And while there is no question about the dedication and commitment it takes to become an Olympic-class athlete, the obstacles Harrison has overcome on her journey are a testament to unparalleled strength and courage that go well beyond the mat.
The Council will give her a champion's welcome at our event in Boston in October, and we hope you'll join us. Find out more about our convention today.
