Conference Committee budget contains $20m Salary Reserve!
The Conference Committee charged with negotiating the differences between the House and Senate budget proposals just reported out its compromise budget, it includes a $20 million annualized Salary Reserve!
The inclusion of the Salary Reserve language in the Conference Committee budget proposal is a huge milestone in the Council's work to secure relief for human service workers, and it would not have been possible without our members' ongoing commitment to advocacy.
This evening's accomplishment also would not have been possible without the Council's strong allies in the legislature. The Council thanks Senate President Therese Murray, Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo, and the six members of the Conference Committee who approved the Salary Reserve: Senate Ways & Means Chair Stephen Brewer, Senate Ways & Means Vice Chair Jennifer Flanagan, Senator Michael Knapik, House Ways & Means Chair Brian Dempsey, House Ways & Means Vice Chair Stephen Kulik, and Representative Vinny deMacedo.
Additionally, the Council could not have gotten to this point without the tireless advocacy of our champions, Senator Karen Spilka and Representative David Linsky.
Please thank all of the legislators, including any of your local representatives or senators who signed on to a letter or co-sponsored an amendment.
The Council will next will turn its attention to ensuring that the Governor does not veto this language. Gov. Patrick will have only ten days to issue line-item vetoes and sign the budget, so we must be ready for action as soon as both chambers have approved the Conference's budget, which is expected Thursday. Please return to providers.org for updates on the budget process.
