Two Council bills reported favorably out of committee

We are happy to share with our members and supporters that the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing reported two Providers' Council bills favorably out of committee on Thursday, April 26.

The bills, both sponsored by Senator Richard Moore, would improve human services employees' access to affordable health care. One bill would allow human services workers to purchase less expensive health care coverage through the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority. The other piece of legislation would allow the Providers' Council to serve as a "qualified association" for the purpose of aggregating its members to receive more favorable health care rates.

While the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing reporting these bills favorably out of committee is a positive step, there is still a long way to go. For more information about this legislation, please see below.

Senate Bill 532
Sponsored by Senator Richard Moore

Senate Bill 532 would make the affordable insurance of the Health Insurance Connector available to the contract human service provider workforce.

Senate Bill 534
Sponsored by Senator Richard Moore

Senate Bill 534 would enable the Massachusetts Council of Human Service Providers to serve as a "qualified association" to aggregate members of any size for the purposes of procuring health insurance products at favorable rates.
