2010 Census Information

The Providers' Council is working with its national partner, the Nonprofit Voter Engagement Network,to help human service organizations educate their members and clients about the importance of the 2010 census. For fact sheets, hard-to-count maps and other information, please see the below links and return to our site often for the latest updates.
You can also e-mail us at census@providers.org.
Please join the Providers' Council as we work with the federal government on the United States Census 2010. Every person counted brings in $1,400 in federal funds to support essential human services and the people we serve. Further, this counts also impacts the number of people who represent us in Congress. Massachusetts is on the edge of losing one Representative which means we need to work hard to make sure we have a full count.
Many of the people we serve are regarded as "hard to count." It is the relationships of trust that we have built with people in the community that make us effective in building the count. Please reach out to all of your constituencies!!

In March, census forms will be mailed to every household in the Commonwealth. It is asked the forms be returned by April 1. All information given to the Census Bureau remains with them by law, and no questions are asked about immigration status. Please encourage all people associated with your programs to complete this form. If the census form is not returned, census workers will be going door to door to finish the count.
Special importance is given to the "group quarters" count - i.e., residential programs. Presently, census professionals ("enumerators") are approaching residential programs until March 19th. They will either complete forms during the visit, or leave them and return to pick them up. We ask providers to be prepared for this visit and to contact the census bureau if this count does not take place - or Michael Ripple.

For more information please use fact sheets on the website! You can
check out the fact sheets here. These will help you get all the information you and your organization need about the Nonprofits Count 2010 program.
We have also added maps of the Boston and Massachusetts Hard-to-Count areas for the 2010 census. The Hard-to-Count areas are determined based on a ranking of different items, including percentage of vacant housing units, percentage of multi-family housing units and percentage of renter-occupied units.
